WARNING TO DOG OWNERS.

TO THB EDITOR. Sir, —A few Sundays ago, some person, presumably authorised by tlie Domain Board 1 , found a small fox tender in Hagley Park. Although there were no sheep near the spot, and the dog bad not interfered with them in any way whatever, the fellow caught the dog, and deliberately hacked its throat with his pen knife. I' will refrain at the present moment from commenting on this “ method of kilUng,” presuming that proceedings will be taken against this individual. The Domain Board apparently claims the right to destroy any dog found in Hagley Park. The position is as follows. A large public park, situated in a thickly-populated city, is utilised 1 ®s an accommodation paddock for sheep. The authorities of this paddock claim, the right to destroy any man’s property, however valuable or prized it may be, not through any fault of dog or owner, but directly due to their own carelessness. The main gates of the park are open the major portion of every day for the benefit of cyclists, and I have carefully examined the boundaries, and find there is no attempt made of any kind whatever to guard against the intrusion of dogs. The authorities might with equal sense and equal reason run a couple of wires round Latimer Square, and destroy any d&g that got on the grass. Ti the police were to attempt to enforce every law that has been made, they would speedily bring a hornet’s nest about their ears, al state of affairs I trust the Christchurch Domain Board wall have the good sense tof avoid'. —I am, etc., RESIDENT.
