Rickards, and members of the Rickards’ Vaudeville Company arrived from /Wellington by the Penguin last night. , Mrs E. Willis, whose death occurred at Waiau on Saturday, was one of the pilf grims, having come to Canterbury with ' her husband, the late Mr George Willis, in the ship Creasy. She resided for many years in the Springfield and Sheffield districts, where her husband carried oh the hotel business. On the death of her husband twelve years ago, she went to Rangiora, where some of her children are living, and a few weeks ago removed to Waiau. Mrs Willis was esteemed by all vrluo knew her, and- being a good conversationalist, her reminiscences of the early days'Vere most entertaining. She, leaves a family of five sons and three daughters. Mr F. C. Raphael, who has been honorary secretary to the Canterbury Cricket Association for fix years, has resigned from the position. He has been appointed secretary to the New Zealand Cricket Council, -and considers that the two posi_j£ons are not compatible. Colonel Wood and Dr Young left for Wellington by the s.s. Rotomahana on Saturday night.
