A BALLOON FATALITY. United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Sept. 2. Spectators playing with a captive wall balloon at Leather-head, Surrey, released it., A man clinging to a rope was carried up a hundred feet, and then dropped and was killed. Three men who were inside thej car pulled the valve rope and descended! in safety. A RAILWAY ACCIDENT* NEW YORK, Septs 2. A negro train was derailed in Alabama. Twenty-five persons were killed 'and fifty injured. , [Pkr Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Sept. 2. The body of a newly-born infant was found in Macandrew Bay, Otago Harbour, yesterday. Evidently it had been prematurely born. There are no details. John lliely, siity- 1 three years of age, eJ farmer at Otakia, Taieri, was killed by al bluegmn tree falling on him. He was felling the tree with his sons, and in ning back when it was falling deceased tripped, and was pinned' by a orandh before he could recover. SUDDEN DEATH. Mrs Clifford, aged about eighty-four years, living at Seftou with her daughter, Mrs Refer, dropped dead yesterday morning, when peeling potatoes. She was apparently in good health during tho morning. Mr H. W. Bishop, District Coroner, will hold an inquest to-day. The boy Vegan, who was thrown from his liorse and severely injured at Lyttelton on. Monday, died at 9.10 last night,, never having recovered consciousness. A collision between two vehicles in Stafford Street, Tiniani, on Monday, resulted in serious injury to on# of the •horses concerned. A man named Donald Munro left his liorse and trap unattended outside an hotel, and the hors® fan away and collided with a dray, the abaft of which penetrated its breast, and Was broken off in tho wound. It is thought that the wound can be cured. The owner was fined yesterday, 20s for being drunk whilst in charge of a horso, and 40» for leaving the trap unattended.
