BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SYDENHAM. The Sydenham Borough Council met last evening; present—the Mayor (Mr J. B. Sim), and Councillors Sanith, Webb, Bcwden, Hadfield, M'Meekan, Clifford, Taylor, Forrester, Jones and Parsons. The Works and Reserves Committee requested authority to purchase a roadsweeping machine. In reference to an application by the Sydenham Swimming Club, the committee recommended, that the club should be granted the use of the bath ont the same terms as last year, except tha* the school children in charge of the instructor should be allowed to use the 'baths on Saturday mornings. The report was adopted. The Finance Committee reported that during the last fortnight the receipts od} the Council had been £412 18s 2d, of which) £276 9s Id had been from rates. It recommended', the payment of accounts to the amount of £438 Os 2d. The 'balances of aocounts were:—Credits, separate accounts £291 15s 10d, interest account £lO5 2s 8d„ loans account £3356 7s lOd, total £47o* 6s 4d. Debit, general account £5563 25.4 d. The report was adopted, and the accounts were passed and ordered to be paid. The Coronation Memorial Comimiittee reported that it bad invited tender* for supplying the ironwork for the band rotunda, and recommended that the tender of Messrs Hepburn and Sons, at £47 10s, should be accepted. The report was adopted. The Lighting Committee recomanended that the Gas Company's offer to light the public lamps in the borough should be accented, and that tenders should be invited for the supply of twelve lamp-posts. Also, that when the Gas Company was prepared to fix up new lanterns with inoandescenti burners, extra lamp-posts should be ereoted. The report was adopted, and after some minor business had been transacted the Council rose.
