SENSATIONAL ATTEMPT AT SUICIDE.

[Per Pkess Association*.] j , OAMARU, Oct. 2. A;miner named G. T. Thorp, who resides at Livingstone, but whose wife and family live in Oamaru, came to town to-day raid demanded to see his wife. Thorp was armed with a loaded revolver, and en going into the garden to see his wife she ran from him-, he followed, but he did not attempt to fire at her. The wife and daughter found refuge with the neighbours, and the police were sent for. On the 'arrival.ai Con-stable Hunt, Thorp pointed the revolver at his own head and fired. The bullet penetrated the skull, but did not touch a vital part, and fatal consequences are not apprehsndod. Thorp had also prepared a dose of laudanum, and on finding that 'the bullet was not likely to prove fatal, asked for the laudanum, but did not' get it. He was taken to the hospital. The bullet has lodged- near the ear.
