WEST COAST NOTES. [Feom OUE COEEESX'ONDENT.] GREYMOUTH, Sept. 30. The {©"owing additional returns were recorded to-day: —Nelson Creek 3Soz for week, Ahaura River 19oz 7Jdwt for 108^ hours, Ford 3 Creek 12oz Gdwl for 89 hours, Erickson s Reward! 9oz lOdwb. ■ ... Nelson. Creek was dredging on the poor side of the creek, but this week commenced a return cut, no that returns should be on tne up grade for the next five weeks. , , . . A flood in the river m the early part of the la«t week prevented the Ahaura dredge from working to advantage. The return, therefore, is considered highly _ . The wash in Ford’s Creek claim is improy-i-ie. The dredge is now working in the creek. The return lor this week, if full time is worked, should be an improvement. ~ , Erickson’s Reward dredge is still troubled with sunken timber. This difficulty, however, should be got over within a fortnight. ■ The new bottom tumbler for the Old Dig•trines dredgo was -taken- up to the claim on Saturday. Under favourable circumstances the dredge should be able to commence work on Tuesday night. The paddock has been silted up as a result of recent floods _in the BuMer river - , and I can hardly •anticipate a return till this diay fortnight. ' Mr Morel, of Pactolus dredge, has heen appointed to the ‘ management of Orwell Creek which, will* start in a-ooufe ssven days. -Mokoia dredgo has ■suspended opeiuticna for overhaul and the erection of larger tables. This will enable the dredge to save finer gold. Another -start should be made early ui the W A k <iam excavated for the reception, of the ifoh-i-noor pontoons - has been completed and ’passed by a director, ©o _ -that the pontoons should bo launched this week. As most of the machinery is on the claim a start should be made shortly_ before Christmas, and the dredgo should be in thorough working order by the New Year. It is in contemplation to put down a shaft in another part of the, claim for further evidence as to the extent of the auriferous gravels.
