THE COMPLETION OF THE CATHEDRAL.

A fresh effort is about to be made to raise the necessary funds for the completion of the Anglican Cathedral. The erection of the transepts is being proceeded with, and considerable progress has already been made, but sufficient money is not yet in hand to build the chancel also. A tender has been received, however, for the whole work of completion, and it is found, that, if it can all be done in one contract, a saving can be effected on the total cost, of some £2OOO or £3OOO. The desirableness of proceeding with the whole work of the Cathedral completion at once is therefore apparent; and it is hoped that churchmen throughout the diocese, and others who’ are in sympathy with the church’s aims, will liberally respond to the appeal. With a view to the speedy completion of the building, the Rev C. R. Pollock has been appointed by the Bishop one of his Chaplains-in-Ordinary, and .has been entrusted with the pork of obtaining, by a canvass of the diocese, the necessary funds. The sum required is about £7OOO. Mr Pollock hfliS special qualifications for the duties he has undertaken, and is personally confident of bringing them to a successful issue. As Organising Secretary for ten years, of the Additional Curates’ Society in England, he has had large financial- and organising experience.
