FURNITURE MANUFACTORIES.
TO THE EDITOR. ■Sir,—The Hon Charles Lo.uisson, M.L.C.. when speaking on the third reading of the Shop and Offices Bill, is reported in “ Hansard;” No. 20, to have said Within the last tiro months a largo furniture inannfaic tory carrying on business in, Christchurch, owing to the uncertainties of the labour market, had to cell their eltock and plant, and they proposed in the , future to cany on their ' business with imported articles and goods. .With regard to boob factories, several are dlosing in consequence of the difficulties of labour' legislation.” Now that the hon gentleman is in Christchurch, and away from the tainted atmosphere of the Tory Chamber, if he will make enqiurk®, ho will be informed that two factories are closing ,up in consequence of the proprietors building more commodious and up-to-date buildings. True, a furniture factory has closed down, though nob for tire reason the Hon. Charles is pleased to think, for was not the stock and plant bought by a. rival firm?
I always thought the hon gentleman was honourable indeed, hut when we find him making such unwarrantable -and unjust statements, well, I am- like the Scotchman, ” ! hae mo Hoots." —I am, etc., F.T.E. ,
