A return laid before Parliament to-day shows that the number of blocks of land acquired under the Land for Settlements Act •: during uko years ending MarcSi 31, 1898, 1899, 1900, .and 1901, is forty-one. The principal blocks opened in Canterbury are:—Horsley Downs, 5982 acres 3 rood's 35 perches, at £5 per acre; Marawiti, 2028 acres 2 roods 33 perches, at £7 per acre; Albury, 19,502 -'awes 3 rc-eds 20 perches, at £3 7s 6d per acre, 30 acres at £4 per acre, 6 acres 2 roods 4 perches at £4 16s 6d per acre; Wailoakahi, 48,226 acres 0 roods 12 perches at £6 15s per acre, and 36 acres 2 roods 22 peroheg at 810 per .acre ; Punaroa, 7029 acres 3 irocds 6 perches, at £4 10s per aere; Pareora No. 2, 8132 acres- 0 roods 31 perches, at £8 15s per acre; Takitu, 9713 acres 0 roods 37 perches, at £2 7s ,6d per acre; Papafca-, 1561 acres 2 roods 25 peaches, at £ll 10s per acre.
