ThetAVellington “Post” gives the following account of the recent passage of the Shaw, Srqiil and 'Albion Company’s s.s. Aotea, from Hobart to AVellington. The vessel left Ifl'obart on July 27. Up to noon the (following day, Sunday; the weather was moderate, after which, a southerly wind set in, increasing in eight hours to a Heavy gale. After thirty-six hours pi heavy weather there was, a slight moderation. One of the eccentrics was then found to be bent, owing to the severe labouring of the ship, and this necessitated the engines being stopped for ten hours. The gale continued,- slightly moderating, however, on approaching Cape Farewell, at midnight on Friday, and lair weather 'was then experienced 'till-arrival in the harbour. Some idea of the terrible 'weather experienced in the Tasman Sea -may he gathered from the fact that the ■whole of the deck cargo, consisting of a consignment oi over fifty cases of acids, was lost overboard. -When the hatches were lifted: this morning it was found that an enormous quantity- -df cargo had been smashed to pieces—spirits, oils, tars, paint, and general cargo all bcipg;, mixed up m indescribable confusion, and broken, glass and cases lying -everywhere. The damage is due to the rolling of the v-es-i »alV'|h*' rail* at time being under water. Cap- ”, tain. E. J. Evans'is still in command, and there;haa.been no- change in her list of officers ■ Mace her last visit. TELEGRAPH NOTICE BOARD. WELLINGTON, August 6.
