LINCOLN ROAD DRAIN.
At a- meeting of the Christchurch Drainage Board, yesterday,) a letter t was read from the Secretary of "the Domain Board, asking the Drainage Board to complete the covering of the Lincoln Road Drain. Sri ' Dr Symes, Health Officer, wrote saying that he did not consider it advisable to cover in the short length of the Lincoln Road Drain passing through Hagley Park. Tho convenience of the public did "hot;require that portion, of the drain to be covered, and the health of the hospital offerecj a’n urgent reason ' for keeping it open, as about ten chains length of the same drain ran perfectly open through the hospital grounds, ami if the part in Hagley Park were covered, the sewer gas, formed in the closed portion on the Lincoln Road, would be discharged in the hospital grounds, in front of the Hyman Marks Ward. Alter inquiries, he had found no evidence to support the suggestion that the Lincoln Road drain caused any trouble at the hospital. Mr R. M, Taylor said that it was absurd that sanitary fledglings, such as the Chairman of the Hospital Board, should dictate to the Board. The Board had medical testimony in regard to the drain, and in support of its attitude. It was decided to write to the Hospital and Domain Boards, stating that, with the expert evidence available, it was not considered necessary to cover in 'that portion of the drain referred to. The Secretary was instructed (to thank Dr Symes for his report.
