Russian ship Triton, which arrived at Adelaide from Delagoa Bay on July 18, has been chartered to load with wheat in New Zealand for the United Kingdom and the Continent. Captain Bignell, formerly of the steamer Waipara, is, says the " Post,” temporarily in charge of the Jane Dougiaa, which arrived on Sunday morning from Westport with thirtyfive tons of coal. Captain Coulson, who ms been in charge of the vessel since she entered into the coastal trade, has resigned, and on • the vessel’s return to Westport his place is to be taken by Captain Anderson. Taieri left for Westport, and the s.s. Tarawera for Wellington. THE WAIPORI. The Union 'Steamship Company’s new cargo .steamer Waipori arrived at Lyttelton from Newcastle, on her maiden trip, at 3.15 a.m. yesterday, with a cargo of coal. She is a good specimen of the cargo carrier of the newest type, and is'fitted with the most recent improvements in machinery and appliances, bne is constructed of steel, and hex dimensions are length 282.1 ft, beam 40.1 ft, depth of hold 20.4 ft. Her deadweight capacity is 3000 tons, and her registered tonnage 1919 tons gross and 1229 tons net. Her engines, on the tripie expansion principle, are of 174 horse-power nominal, the diameter of the cylinders 18 , respectively, 21in, S3in and 53in, and the length of stroke 38in. Her speed at sea is Hi knots. The vessel was built by the Campbelltown Shipbuilding Company, and the engines were made by Messrs J. G. Kincaid and Co., ot Greenock'. As the Waipori is specially intended for the timber trade between New Zealand and Australia, she has holds of extra size for the storage of logs. Her winches are placed on platforms above the deck, thus afford. а. clean run and enabling the winchman to .have better command of his work. The Waipori is commanded by Captain M. Hvine, an officer well 'known, in Lyttedon, and the son of a resident.' of Christchurch. His officers'are;—Chief officer, Mr S. James; second, Mr R- N. Munro; third, Mr W. H.
