RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. Tuesday. A beautiful, mild morning. saw tho trainers cut early with their charges. Before 7 a.m. W. Keith sent Forward Guard and Employer a couple of circuits on the sand,,the last at a strong pace. Sundial’s task was a light one, while Sant Ilario moved pleasingly over the Winter Cup course, Foray, who essayed to assist him the last five furlongs, being of no use to her companion at tho finish. After an interval of about half ,an hour Dundas and Benzoin, .looking pictures, of health, dashed over seven furlongs on the cinders, j finishing together. Lady Dundas was extended over a similar distance, and went exceeding,y well. This filly is in capital fettle just now. Zither and Hultu finished fast over the last part of two useful circuits, while Cora Linn, looking •lusty and well, left four furlongs behind, her in fair time. Marina, after cantering a round, put inftolid work over-a mile, moving freely. Long Tom and Oyster finished together at the end of a strongly run six furlongs, and Malatua and Peerage were given sprinting tasks. Hotu, Strathnairn and Magnificent registered, a good 1 working gallop over a mile, while Somerled was fully extended over seven furlongs, Windwhistlo bringing him home. Haydn and Pavona ran a, useful mile, and Surrey and Huntingdon put in a strong circuit on the grass. Patroclus, Derry and Surprise, were companions in a schooling task. The trio set out over the double, but the two former ran off; eventually Patroclus was got over, but Derry in running round came in contact with the wing and unseated his rider, who, however, pluckily held on to his mount. After a little delay Derry -and 'Surprise went a circuit over tho hurdles, and then Patroclus again joined them, and the trio fenced creditably once round over tho steeplechase fences. Right Metal (A. M’Morr-an) set out alone to : negotiate the big fences, but came to 'grief at the first obstacle. He was re-mounted, and then got safely over the four fences, although ho fenced rather slowly. Derring-do (Mr W. Stead) and Larboard Watch acquitted themselves well over the hurdles, Done Brown, alone, doing a similar task; and afterwards jumping the big fences capitally. 'Social Pest (W. Clarke) and Straybird (D. Moraglian) gave, the- onlookers a- treat in watching them negotiate the steeplechase fences. After going a circuit Anglo joined them, and tho trio fenced faultlessly throughout another round, Mr' Rutherford's National' candidate especially showed fine form, and gained considerably over his companions, who are both finished fencers. By his performance this morning Social Pest has gained many friends, and ‘should he continue to show such fine jumping abilities in his schooling it is -almost certain he will go out a -strong favourite cu the day. Hairtrigger and Natation were associated in a schooling, task over the country; the latter fenced faultlessly, but his companion performed! indifferently. The Needle, looking a Eicture, had Opaku for a companion over the urdles, end they both showed good form, although tho Aucklander is not a fast jumper. After the schooling task The Needle joined Mars, and the pair put. in a strong circuit on the sand, both moving freely and well. Among the others who were out and did useful tasks were Derringcotto, Lapidary, Clandeboye, Clanburn, and Muscovite. The Yaldhurst '.division- were down and worked in -the pre-, sonce of their owner,, Mr (Stead. They all look, in forward .condition. ; / ... / _ , The-arrivals over/night’'wore Scottish Miri-1 strcl and Tremor. They were out this morning, and did steady exercising. -Both appear in capital' health. . The racehorses Bodara, Jewel Gun and Whitirea arrived from the north by tho a.a Tarawera yesterday morning. A meeting of -the Amberley Steeplechase. -Club w.a-a held at Amberley on Monday, July 29. Mr -G. B. Starky in the chair. It was decided that the race privileges should -be sold ■by auction by Mr 'P. C.' Tab-art on Monday, August 12, and that dividends -should' be paid on first and second horses. 'Dr Fitz Henry attended, and 'explained what he considered ■necessary to provide in case of accidents, -and it was decided to erect a building for the purpose.
