CYCLING.

CANTERBURY ATHLETIC AND CYCLING CLUB.

The second annual meeting of the Canterbury A. and C.C. was held in the City Hall last evening. There was a fair attendance of members, and the President {Mr J. H. Parker) occupied the chair. The annual report stated that the membership now stood at 175. The present commodious club-house, acquired during the past year, bad proved a convenience to members and satisfactory from the financial point of viefr. An art union.' had been promoted in connection with the club and had resulted in a profit of £25. The evening sports meeting held on Derby night had resulted In a profit of £75. A paper chase and a road race promoted by the club had both been carried out very successfully. A member of the club, Mr 0. G. Jones, had been successful in winning the hillclimbing competition. A football team had beeh entered for the Thursday competition. Interest in billiards had been maintained, and weekly socials in the winter months had proved very popular. A shooting range had been erected on the premises, and proved a source of attraction to many members. The financial condition was considered to be highly satisfactory. The balancesheet showed that the year’s working had resulted in a profit of £l4B and the balance of assets over liabilities waa, £llß. Members’ subscriptions had amounted to £126 16s, and the sub-lettings of the main hall and. smaller rooms since Nov. 1 to £67. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the Chairman said the position of the club was gratifying considering that it had had to meet all the difficulties inseparable from the establishment of a new club. New rules, which had been drawn up by a sub-committee, were then considered and adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mr J. H. Parker; vice-presidents —Messrs E. C. MeredithKaye, C. Louisson, R. Struthers, G. E. Good and W. Reece; captain, Mr J, Montague ; vice-captain, Mr F. D. Kesteven; committee—Messrs J. Findlay, E. Andrews, S. A. Bdinger, H. G. Ward, J. Kennedy, P. Mason and F. S. M’Kechnlej auditor, Mr F. H. Labatt. The President, during an interval, presented the club with mounted portraits of the club’s committee, enclosed in a handsome frame. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded him for the donation. Motions acknowledging the services of the secretary and caretaker and of the outgoing officers were also passed, and a vote of thanks, to the Press closed the meeting.
