SUCCESSFUL COLONIAL STUDENTS.

Owing, to the excellent work done by Mr Bertram Steele, of Melbourne, and Mr Joseph Mellor, of New Zealand, who are studying at Breslau and- Manchester respectively, the Commissioners of the 1851 Exhibition have renewed their scholarships for a third year, (Mr Joseph William Mellor studied at Otago University, taking his degree of B.Sc. there in 1897. He gained a Senior Uni-verfity Scholarship in Chemistry and was science exhibitioner of Otago University the same year. In 1898 he took first-claes honours in theoretical and organic chemistry. He then went to Canterbury Agricultural College at Lincoln as lecturer on Natural Science, staying there for about a year. -’He was awarded the 1851 Exhibition Science Scholarship in 1899, and has been- studying in England during the past two years. *
