In the House of Commons Viscount Cranbourne stated that Great Britain's lead was followed in -all turning points in Chinese questions, thus showing her position abroad was one of very great strength and importance. Lord Roberts, while distributing the prizes won at Bisley, said that the South African war had shown the necessity for good shooting -and the exhibition of individual intelligence, since soldiers were compelled to fight m very extended order. The captured members of the Orange Free State Government belong to the most fanatical section of tho Boer malcontents. The death of Mrs Kruger is announced. General Bundle, marching to Standerton, captured largo numbers of Boer horses, cattle and sheep. Tho Chinese have cut al portion of tho telegraph line near Tientsin. A 'Boer commando was surprised by the British near Honingspruit, and suffered considerable loss. The Premier has received a cable message from Colonel Banks, stating that the Sixih Contingent has arrived at Bloemfontein all well. , The Christchurch City Council" last mgnt decided to refer the question of the building of the destructor to a committee of the whole, for consideration at a special meeting to be hold on Friday next. The Domain Beard will apply to Government for a sum to cover the cost of repair work in the Domain required to be done alter tho Royal review. • Mr Kruger, in a -Noie published in tho Brussels -Press, declares that he informed the burghers that international complications were possible, but that intervention was hopeless.
