THE MORGUE.

The combined Sanitary and Wcrks Committee of the City Council reported to a ■meeting of the Council last evening that the committee had resolved that ■ three keys for the morgue should be obtained, one to be kept at the Police Station, one at the Chester Street Fire Brigade Station, and one at the central yard. The sum of. £1 Is should be charged to local 'bodies outside the city for each corpse . taken to the morgue from their districts by the police. Dr Symes reported that he had raised contributions amounting to £7 for the weighing table, and it had been resolved that theadditional £8 required should be voted by the committee, and that the Chairman cf the Sanitary Committee and, Dr Symes should bo authorised to provide necessaries for the morgue. The Town Clerk had reported that he had purchased the necessary furniture for the inquest room. Councillor R. M. Macdonald moved that the report should be adopted. Councillor Payling, in seconding the motion, asked if it would * not be necessary to prepare a by-law in regard to charging local bodies in connection with the .morgue. . The Mayor said that that would not be necessary, as if the local bodies did not use the morgue they would have to build their own. Councillor Clarke said that the committee had fixed the charge of £1 Is because it would cover the bare cost. .It .was stated that a weighing table was a table , and weighing machine combined, and Councillor Clarke said that the pattern which had been decided upon was favoured by the mcdicar men. The report was adopted.
