MANUAL AND TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION.
DEMONSTRATION LESSON AT THE NORMAL SCHOOL.
AtthMNonmal School on Saturday moim■ing a large gathering of town, and country teachers assembled to meet Mr. E. C. Isaacs, Organising Inspector of Manual and Technical Instruction in the public .schools of New Zealand. Mr Isaacs delivered an interesting and instructive address, dealing with manual and technical instruction, in the course of Which he explained the objects and intentions of his department, -fie then gave a number of highly interesting illustrations of what might be done in teaching the lower standard children with plasticine and blackboard. He also exhibited and explained the methods of teaching in connection with wood bricks, paper folding, etc., which he and his colleague, Mr Browne, are now giving instruction upon in the South Island, preparatory _ to the forming of classes. Mr Isaacs advised the teachers present to carefully consider and: make themselves thoroughly acquainted witfhthe new method, as although these methods would not be adopted immediately,''' they would gradually be absorbed into the syllabus. 'At the conclusion' of the demonstration lesson the teachers expressed themselves as highly pleased with Mr Isaacs's lucid explanation, and grateful to him for !his instructive lesson.
