LAND BOARD.
A meeting of the' Canterbury Land Board was held on Thursday ; present—Mr Sidney Weetmun (Commissioner of Grown Lands), Mr A. C. a-nngle and Mr J. Staly. Two applications for land were dealt with. The Oommissionea - of Crown Lands reported that there was reason to Relieve that an applicant had made a false declaration when applying for lob 1 in the Rainciiff Settlement, in stating that the area he held already, together with that for which he was applying, did'not exceed 1000 acres, whereas the total area amounted to about 1569 acres. The applicant attended, and was examined, and it was unanimously resolved that the Beard was of opinion that his interest in the land and all moneys paid by him in. respect thereof should bs forfe ate'd. It was also decided that. proceedings, should be taken against the applicant to the full extent of the law, ‘Mr Pringle dissenting. Applications for freehold title and transfer of leases were dealt with. The Grown Lands Banger’s report, concerning a number of cases, was also dealt with. Three defaulters as to residence and improvements were allowed extensions of time. A half-year’s rent was remitted in one instance. The Ranger was instructed to enforce five forfeitures, unless arrears were paid at once, and nine leases were declared forfeited. Titles were granted to sixteen sections held under temporary tenancies, under the “Midland Authorised Area Land Settlement Act, 1900.” The Board then rose.
