CHRISTCHUECH. Thttcspat, July 11. (Before Mr W. H. Cooper, J.P., and Mr James Hay, J.P.) Detotkenn-ess.—A first offender was fined ss, and costs, in default twentyfour hours' imprisonment; and Annie Smith was fined 10s, and costs. {Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) Civil Oases.—ln the following oases judgment was given for the plaintiffs by default:—"Press" Company v. C. T. Cork, claim £3l 13s 6d; Henry Berry and Co. v. R. Swnnrkk, £7 Is 9d; W. Strange and Co. v. J. Percival, £2 10s; Jam« 3 Knight v. George Bone, £24 16s Sd. —Booth, Maicdonald and Co. (Mr Widdowson) sued John Stevenson (Mr Bruges) for £2 5s 7d, on account of parts of ploughs supplied to defendant on his order. Tina defence was that the' goods had been in bad condition, and had been returned, but, after hearing evidence, Mr Bishop gave judgment for the plaintiff ■ for' £2 and .costs.—ln a similar case,' Booth, Macdonaid amd Co. v.' L. Tullock, judgment was given for the plaintiffs for £2'9s 6d/and costs. A Bailiff's Trochles.—Benjamin Drury (Mr Leatham) sued Harry Boardman (Mr Widdowson) and Edward Jones (Mr Stringer) for £l9 12s. Boardman, a bailiff, on account of Jones, took possession of Drury's effects under a distress warrant, and held a sale. He made a charge of £2 2s in addition to the debt for' advertising and expenses of an extra roan in possession. Drury sought to recover this amount, with £l7 10s damages for the over-charge. Mr Bishop granted a nonsuit in the case against' Jones, and a quantity of evidence was taken in the case against Boardman. Eventually Mr Bishop disallowed the claim for damages and part of the claim for advertising, and gave judgment for the plaintiff for £1 2s and costs.
