THE WEATHER.
The extremely qpld weather and the heavy fro ate in the Ashburton district have caused! the ponds in the- Domain to be frozen over, and some very good skating has been enjoyed, A skating club has been formed in. the town, and the Borough Council has given it power to protect the ice from being destroyed by boys, numbers of whom congregate in the Domain to play, and, in addition to placing obstacles on it, destroy the ice near the shore. [Per Press .Association.] ' AUCKLAND, July 1. A heavy gale, accompanied by torrents of rain, occurred last night. No damage was done. INVERCARGILL, July 1. Exceptionally severe frosts have been experienced here. Old residents state that they were the hardest known in'these parts. '' '
