WELLINGTON, June 28i > At the request of the D&puty-P ostmsgterGeneral of Tasmania', made through the Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department here, the captains of the St George and Juno have consented to look out for and to despatch messages hy wireless telegraphy when approaching the river Der-. went. Before leaving the colony the Duke of Cornwall and York presented Sir Joseph Ward with a solid silver cigar ahd cigarette case: combined for table or sideboard, with their Royal Highnesses’ badge and crest in gold. The Duke And Duchess also forwarded autograph photographs to Lady Ward. On the .run from Lyttelton the Hinemqa steamed within signalling distance of the Ophir, and signalled '‘God-speed. Safe voyage. Good-bye.” An answer from the Ophir came back “ Good-bye. ;. Many thanks. /Kift Ora.” ... Tie Governor and Ministers returned from Christchurch to-day. • AUCKLAND! June 28. At a meeting of the City Council last evening the Finance Committee submitted the following recommendation in regard to a communication from the Royal Reception Committee, asking for the Council’s contribution to the expenses of the reception*- “ That a progress payment of £4OO be made and detailed accounts submitted to the Council before final payment is ' mode;” ' This recommendation' was adopted. ; , THE ROYAL COMMISSIONERS., Mr John Holmes, the Executive Commissioner, Las forwarded, the following telegram to the Royal Commissioners throughout the colony,. in connection with the re- ■ oeptlon of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York at the various centres in the colony“ In personally presenting to me, fis Executive Commissionerfor New Zealand, a handsome souvenir of his yisit, his Royal me to convey to you and to all my colleagues throughout* the colony, his best thanks for, audhearty appreciation of, the valuable help rendered by yourself in making the reception such- a brilliant success, wormy of the colony.‘His Royal Highness expressed groat- pleasure with all the arrangements, and regretted that most important engagements - in other parts of the Empire prevented'his longer stay in New Zealand.” ■ : To this Mr R. Allan telegraphed, in reply:—“l am much gratified hy the gracious, message . from his Royal ; Highness, conveyed through you. I have wired to Sir. ' Arthur Bigge. I must also express the great pleasure it has been to work with. 1 you. The business-like and courteous’ manner in which you carried out your duties has greatly contributed to the success of the Royal tour, and I am very pleased that your efforts have been recognised.” , Messrs' G. G. Stead and Hi F. Wigram also sent brief telegrams of acknowledgment, expressing pleasure. 'THE MILITARY REVIEW. ; Colonel Role Ponton is issuing a general order to the following effetit:—Sis Royal r Highness the Duke of Cornwall and York has commanded me to express to all officers, non-commissioned officers and men of ( the forces who took part in „the recent \ celebrations throughout the colony, his appreciation of their efforts and his pleasure at the efficient manner in which all theil duties were carried out.” ! ’
The effective electric illumination of the Harbour Board’s building at Lyttelton was lighted on Thursday night, as it had been every night since the Royal, visitors landed at Lyttelton. It was, probably, the last illumination to be displayed in their honour in Canterbury. Mr Sidney Chapman, the manager of the Christchurch Ohm, yesterday morning received a present from their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York for his courtesy towards the members of their Royal Highnesses’ suite whilst staying at the Christchurch Club. The present consists of an ash tray, in the shape of the white'rose of York the rose being silver, with a medallion containing their Royal Highnesses’ portraits in gold in the centre. A letter from their Royal Highnesses expressing their flp preciation, accompanies the- gift.' • .;

The Governor-General was warmly welcomed! by thousands of persons, and the streets were gaily decor* ated. He was escorted by mounted troops to Government House. “
