ENTERTAINMENTS.
_ The Richmond School Committee invited ‘ the parents of children attending tab® school to a “social” in the Methodist Schoolroom on Thursday evening. There. was a large attendance. Mr R. J. Pauli, chairman of, the School Committee, 'presided. The opportunity was taken to present Mr A. Gray, second master, who is leaving the school, having been appointed to th» Boys’ High School at Akaroa, with severs handsome presents. The gifts of a walnut writing-case by the girls ' a travelling-bag by the boys, a rug by the .teachers, and a silver-mounted pipe and* tobacco pouch by the School Committee. The Chairman thanked Mr Gray fox his services in coaching th® boys in football and atmetac sports. During the evening the following contributed musical items- —• Misses Denham, Sorensen, Ward, and M Canon, and Miessrs IF. T. M'Kay C Goggan, Steeds, and Plewdien. Miss* M Thompson was accompanist. Refreshments were handed round by the teachers. On Thursday evening an entertainment, promoted by the congregations of the Presbyterian and Wesleyan Churches was . given in the Oddfellows’ Hall, LytMton, for the men of the warships in Port. There was a large attendance. A number of musical items were performed, and refreshments served. .
