THE FISH MARKET.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Having approached Mr Inspector Ellison, and likewise the Mayor and councillors'of Christchurch in regard to my position in respect to purchasing fish for my living, will you allow me to give one or two reasons for my exclusion from the market? The first is.that I shall not see bad fish or dead crayfish boiled up and sold to the public as fresh. The auctioneer says that I have too many eyes abont for hhn, but unfortunately for myself I have only one, and 1 that one is affected. But perhaps I see further ahead than some of them. On June 1 echnappers fetched 4s a dozen, which, if they had been sound and in good condition when landed in Christchurch, would have brought from 8s to 12s. When I asked thhm to put some up or sell me some they refused. Then on June 5 three pairs of rabbits were sold to me, Wd when I skinned 1 them I found they were green. I have been informed that the rest were sent to the freezing chambers till they are wanted.—l am, etc., G. TIBBS.
