The celebrations in connection with the reception of the (Duke and Duchess of York at Wellington yesterday were very successful. At Government House yesterday, the Hon J. G. Ward was invested hy the Duke of York, with a Knighthood of the Order of St Michael and St George. The Hon J. M’Kenzie ie to be forthwith gazetted a 'knight of the same order. Mr Hay, the Secretary of State for the United States, delivered. a remarkable speech at Buffalo, in which he protested against Vice-President Rosevelt’s and Senator. H, A. Lodge’s declarations with reference to the expansion of the Monroe doctrine. A team representing the Queen's Park 'Club, Glasgow, beat the New Zealand bowlers hy fifty-two points to twenty-seven, West Australia has' been declared free of the plague. i ’ Colonel iScbbell and Colonel Gorringe forced Krurtzinger’s, Fouche’s and Myhurgh's commandos across the borders of Kafiraria. The commandos having dispersed, broke back, reunited and crossed the railway line at Molteno, on June 18. They were well clad, with several horses each, and plenty of ammunition. After 'Colonel Sladen’s Mounted Rifles had captured his convoy. Do Wet sent help,, and a hot engagement followed. General Elliott despatched ‘Colonel Dolisle’s ■ Mounted! Infantry to Colonel Sladen’s assistance, and the Boers were routed. Tho New Zealand bowlers defeated the Poppy Shaw Club, Glasgow, by 40 points to 39.
