HOCKEY.
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the Canterbury Hockey Association was held in the City Hall last evening. About twenty delegates were present, and Mr C. Lewis', M.H.R., president of the Association,, occupied the chair. The report of the commitee congratulated the Association on a. most successful year, and expressed the. opinion .'tlrat in view of the great stride* made by the sport, dt was bound to occupy in the near future the foremost position, amongst winter pastimes. A notable feature of the past season was the keen' interest taken in the game by ladies, who had formed clubs and played, a great_ many matches, and in this connection, the report urged that the time was ripe for the formation of a Ladies' Association. The Thursday ' competitions resulted in wins for the Drapers' Club (senior), and Sydenham (junior), and both the Saturday competitions were won by the Christchuroh Club. The only interprovincial match of the season, that against Wellington, resulted in a defeat for the Canterbury representatives. The Referees' Association was eulogised for its work during the year, and the report concluded by expressing the committee's high appreciation of the services of " The Sportsman" in advancing the popularity of the sport. The report was adopted, as was also the balance-sheet, which showed a debit balance of 12s 9d, attributable to the non-existence of entrance fees for' the Association's competitions. The election of officers resulted as follow: — President, Mr C. Lewis, M.H.R.; vicepresidents, Mr Walter Johnson and the Rev H.'H.-Mathias; treasurer, Mr T.~ Smith"j secretary, Mr Saunders; assistant-secretary, Mr Yates; auditor, Mr W. Sherriss; delegates to complete Executive, Messrs W. Black and J.' Pattrick. A letter was received from Mr Schneider, in England, covering communications from the English Hockey Association. Mr Schneider expressed liis pleasure at receiving the "Sportsman " regularly. The letters referred to expressed the pleasure the Association would derive from the affiliation of -the Canterbury Hockey Association with the English Association, but, in view of the likelihood of the expense not being compensated for by corresponding advantages, the seci-etary, Mr Frampton, suggested honorary affiliation. Mr J. C. K. Sibbald moved—" That this Association should agree to affiliate with the English Association on the terms' suggested in Mr Frampton's letter, and it further desires to thank that Association for its liberal and sportsmanlike'offer." The motion was carried, and a vote of thanks was passed to. Mr Schneider for his efforts on behalf of thei game. Several clubs wrote, in connection with colours and affiliation, and* some minor accounts were passed for payment. The following committees were "lected: —Saturday Postponement Committee—Messrs W. Black and W. Johnson; Thursday Postponement Committee—Messrs Smith and Saunders; Appeal'and Protest Committee—. Messrs Pattrick, Black, N. Strange, Letha-
by and Oram. In view of the difficulty of the status question, it was resolved, after discussion, to appoint a Rules Revision' Committee, consisting of Messrs Letihaby, Yates, Sibbald, Pattrick and Montague. Tha , Thursday and,Saturday competitions' wei* arranged, to commence on, May 2 and May 4 respectively, the entries for which will be received until April 25 and April 27. The qestions of entrance' fees for the competition, the provision of goal-nets, and the appointment of an official journal, were left for the consideration of the Rules Revision Committee. Several delegates spoke of tk» inconvenience suffered by players in Thurs» day competitions in travelling to.Rangior*. A resolution, suggesting that negotiations should "be made with the Rangiora Club to obTiate such inconvenience, was lost, 16 was decided' that it should be a' recommend-* ation to the Executive to consider the question of providing trophies for competition, Reference was made to the energy and- zeal of thrflate secretary, Mr Sibbald, and the Seo retory was instructed to convey the meet* ing's appreciation to him. A vote of thanks to the president closed the meeting.

Carson and Wyllie scored fof Lyttelton, and Saunders for SydenJham. Saunders played an especially good geoUs among the forwards, as did Walters among the backs. For Lyttelton ftiahar. and Carson distinguished themselves among tinforwards, and Gilmore played a very good and safe game for the backs". The members of the Lyttelton Ladies' Hockey Club provided afternoon tea. - - • ~ A match was played yesterday between the senior and junior players of tie United Club, and resulted in a win- for'the seniors, the scores being seven goals to four, scored by Rankin 3, Simny 2, Lloyd 1, Edser 1, for the winners; and Edward® / 1, Shaman 1, Vear 1 end Cox 1 for the .. losers. The Kaiapoi) and Rangiora Thursday . teams played a friendly match at Kaiapoi on Thursday afternoon!'which, resulted in a win for the visitors by six goals to .-oil. Mir D.
