[Pek Pbess Association.] V AUCKLAND, April-18. Joseph Strong, a farmer at Papakura, committed suicide on his farm on Tuesday, by blowing his head off with a gun. He had been peculiar of late. At an inquest touching the ctes.th. of a child named Mackay, medical evidence showed that death was due to starvation, owing to improper food. It transpired that Mennell, the father of the child, now in New Caledonia, left instructions not to call in a doctor.' He stated that he would rather that the child should die than have a doctor in the house. The coroner suggested the prosecution, of the father. The jury- exonerated the mother, owing to want of experience. NAPIER, April 18. Edward Weaver, the victim of the 1 railway crossing accident yesterday, died at the hospital last night. An inquest was opened to-day, but adjourned. INQUEST. A young married man, aged twenty-six, named James Brown, recently from "Wellington, ■, died suddenly at Mrs Werry's Temperance Hotel,- Timaru, on Wednesdayevening. He had been engaged 'to net as cook there, and began work on Monday, his wife going to private .loggings for her confinement. Among deceased's papers, were some from which the police inferred that his name was William Haywood, but his wife informed them .that she knew nothing of Haywood. . .
