SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The usual monthly meeting 'of the East Christchurch School Committee was held, last Thursday evening. There were present—Messrs T. G. Strange, J. D. Perry, . D. Lumsden, G. E. Franklin, A. Marshall and G. F. Henry. Apologies were received, for the absence of Messrs Brunt and Clark. Mr Strange was voted to the chair. The master's report stated thait the average attendance for the preceding month was 1205, and. the number, 'on, .the roll 1419. Correspondence from the Bbard of Education was received and dealt with. The Inspectors' reports were received, and considered very satisfactory. It was resolved to congratulate the headmaster arid staff on the reports. It was resolved to take steps to prevent the trespass of boys on the school ground out oi school hours. The annual report was read, amended, and adopted. The final meeting of the Heathcote Val-: ley.School Committee was held - on Tues- ; day evening, when all' the members were present. The receipts in connection with the recent school excursion were shown to have been £l6 12s, and the expenditure £l6. Tho credit balance was voted to the flagpole account. Votes of thanks were accorded to the collectors, Messrs Cogle, Burnell and Dearoll, also toxthe Chairman (Mr W. Scott), for the zeal which he had displayed in the interests of the school, and a bonus of £1 was passed' to the caretaker, for the specially, efficient performance of his duties. It was agreed that the committee should individually urge ', householders to take practical interest in the annual meeting next Monday. A meeting of the New Brighton School Committee was held on Monday night;! present—Messrs J. Glanvill© (Chairman),' Hawker, Pattrick, Nicholls, Wyatt and Paton (secretary). The Secretary to the Board of Education wrote, that of the candidates recommended by the committee for pupil teachers few were boys, and asked the reason why the committee xecommehded chiefly girls for the positions. The letter also asked for particulars of the duties of monitors' an the school. The Secretary also wrote with* regard to the committee's accounts; which should be submitted for audit. It Was reported that the accounts had been made up and audited. The accounts showed receipts, including balance from last year, £562 10s Bd, and expenditure £558 3s 8d : , leaving a credit balance of £4. 7s. The Chairman stated.that 'the eamitary work in connection with tho school had been completed. The headmaster's report showed that during the past six weeks the average attendance Lad been 110.5 boys and 90.7 girls. The average had been considerably lowered owing to the school -being open on the day the "Indian troops visited Chrdstchiurch., The number on the present roll was 122 boys and 105 girls, total 227. Four boys and ais girls were -admitted during the period, and seven hoys and! sixteen girls had left the school. The yearly report of the committee for presentation to the gen-' era! meeting of householders was read and adopted..
