PRESBYTERIAN GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
[Per Press Association.] WANGANUI, Feb. 19. . The Presbyterian Assembly resumed this morning.' The Advisory Board reported on church extension grants for 1901, totalling £942. It was decided to nominate no Moderator for this year. At the closing session at 7 p.m. the Almanac Committee’s report was read. It was resolved to'publish a booklet of church information next year. A letter and address: from the local Ministers’ Association were read, expressing the'high 'esteem in which the Assembly was held, and that the church was in the vanguard of, moral reform. The Association prayed for Divlns blessing on the church, to withstand sacerdotalism, and to promote, moral reform and lead men to repentance. The,address was received with gratitude. (in the motion of Dr Klmshc, minutes - were adopted with regard to.the deaths of. the Revs Wright, Headrick and Go.w. The Chinese Mission report was read by Mr Stewart. ■ It showed that Mr Luo. the missionary, continued his work among his fel-low-conntrymsu. There had been m> baptisms., but were believed to be Christians. The- finances were healthy. The Rev W. Kyburn read the report of the perance Committee. It, emphasised the w'ei'ght of Lord Roberts’s appeal. .The committee pretested against the granting of licenses in the King .Country. Votes of thanks were passed to the office-bearers, the congregation of St Paul’s for its hospitality, and to various- local bodies, The Moderator, in his retiring address, thanked) the members for their kindness in assisting him during a most enjoyable Assembly. The Assembly adjourned until November, when it will meet at Dunedin.
