GRAIN AND PRODUCE. The fine weather has enabled fanners to get on with their harvesting, and new grain is beginning to'borne forward, pretty freely.- In the absence of freights, and' as local millers do hot care about operating at the present time, there is very little demand for wheat'. A few lines have been*; taken by speculators, who- have their own storage accommodation, and amongst them is the sale of 1500 sacks prime Tuscan on the basis of 2s 4d f.0.b., and several smaller lots have been, purchased on the same levefl. Oats are offering very freely, but as there is no apparent outlet at. the present, time most .of the business being done is in the hands of'speculators, who- are purchasing sparingly on the basis of Is 5d to Is 6d f.o.b. for good heavy Canadians. Although there is plenty of barley on the market,' there are very few ■buyers, and tbe prices obtained are 'only equal to feed values. Several lines of cocksfoot from the lower portions of the Peninsula have been offered 1 , and sales have been made at from 2ld to 2jd per lb .for 131 bto 141 b seed.’ Although the seed is fairly heavy, most of the samples offering off .riddles are rather foul, being impregnated with goose grass and fog, and the dressing will he rather a difficult matter this season. There is an improved demand for hams and bacon, and the market presents a rather firmer tone without alteration in prices. Following are quotations; Wheat.—Prime milling nominal, Tuscan and Pearl 2s Sd, Hunter’s 2s 4d -to 2s sd, whole fowl-wheat 2s Id to 2s Gd. Oats (nominal). —Milling Canadians Is 7d, short -feed Is Gd, Duns and Danish Is 5d to Is Gd, ' Barley,—-Prime malting 2s 2d lo 2s 4d, medium Is lOd to 2a.. Flour.—Millers quote roller £7, stone £G, sharps £3 10s, bran £3. Oatsheaf Chaff.—fds' to 42s Gd at country stations. , Oatmeal.—£lo. Beans.—2s 5d to 2s Gd. , ‘ Peas.—Blue Prussian and Partridge 2s 4d to 2s sd. Seeds.—Ryegrass, farmers’ lines Is 2d to Is 6d, farmers’ seed, machine dressed 2s Gd to 2s 9d. Cocksfoot, farmers’ dressed lines 2fd to 2£d for bright seed. Cowgrass Gd to Gd. White clover, farmers’ lines 6d to 7f;d. Dairy Produce.-—Cheese, dairy 4d to 4Jd, factory 4Jd to od. ‘Butter—Fresh local factory lOd, best dairy 7d to 9d, salt, in boxes, Gd to 7d for prime. Bacon and hams.GJd to GJd, factory Ad per lb higher. The above prices, except where otherwise stated are those paid to farmers, f.0.b., Lyttelton. ! RANGIORA. A few lines of the new season’s wheat, oats, etc., were on offer at Rangiora yes‘terday, -and a little business was done at the following prices : —Wheat 2s 2d pet bushel; feed oats Is 3d, milling do Is 4d ; partridge and blue peas 2s 5d to 2s 6d per bushel, and ryegrass’ seed Is 3d to Is 6d. At the Rangiora- Central Market- yesterday -the yarding of live stock consisted of 5500 sheep and lambs, 80 cattle and 70 pigs. Although the attendance was small, tire yards were ! cleared at the following satisfactory prices ;—Butchers’ fat ewes 12s to Mss, freezing sheep 18s 9d to i9s, fat lambs 14-. to 14s 6d, good store do 11s 9d to 12s 6d, medium quality do 11s to 11s 3d, old halfbred breeding ewes 11s to 12s 6d, sound-mouth' do 14s 6d to IBs lid, a superior line of,a thousand' six and'eighttooth, halfbred breeding ewes 18s 6d. Cattle : Beef 18a to 20s per 1001 b, good springers '-66 ,10s to £7, medium £5 to £5 10s, dry cows £4 to £4- ss, yearlings £2, calves 25s to 555. Pigs: Good stubblers T9s to 255, weaners 8s to 10s, suckers 6s 6d to 7s, sows in pig 35s to 40s, porkers 30s to 345. ■ln the North Canterbury Saleyards the entry comprised 300 -sheep., .Three-qlira’ter-hred ewes with failing mouths made 13s 9d, halfbred do 11s Id.
