GYMNASTIC COMPETITIONS.

TO THE EDITOR, Sir, —I have refrained: from taking part in this correspondence, hut, .as I' was present on the openingnight.lldf .the; :, competitions and saw the various teams go through the Roman Ring and dumbbell exercises, I feel compelled to say that the St Luke’s team were far and away -the best performers in these two items, more especially in the former, and I think all those who have any knowledge at all of gymnas-. tics and were present that evening will' agree with me iir this. As to the rest of the items included in ’the competitions I can make no remarks as I had to leave after those above referred to had taken place, and on subsequent evenings of the competitions was unable to bs present. Iwas considerably astonished on looking at] the results of the competitions to find that’ the St Luke’s team had: been beaten on' the rings and dumbbells, as, judging by, the performance they gave, it was quite unexpected, and,-being a disinterested spectator, I, of < course, had no other desire but to see nierit receive its due. rewaird. Judging from the correspondence that has passed • it appears ■ evident that exception has been 1 taken to the judge’s decisions, .and, although a judge’s decision should be taken, as final, yet, considering the general dissatis- { faction those decisions appear to have given,: I think it would have been better for all' parties concerned if the Wellington team. t had accepted what, to me, seemed g veiy fair challenge from the Captain, of the' St. Luke’s team, hut as this has not been'accepted the public, must draw- their own. conclusions. —I am, etc., . . i F. V. WADE. -(We think that sufficient space has now, been praT to this , correspondence.-Ed.-“-L.T.”) - .
