PERSONAL.

The Rev John ' Gow, a Presbyterian minister, died at Opotiki yesterday, aged eighty-six. The Rev Mr Murray, Dr Douglas and' Mr W. D. Wood were passengers for Wellington by the s.s. Tarawera last night. The death is reported from London of Mr E. M. Wimperis, vice-president of the Royal Institute of Water Colours. The deceased gentleman was a brotlier of Miss Wimperis, whose pictures have been exhibited! in Christchurch, and a brother-in-law of Mr George Joachim, • the manager of the Westport Coal Company. Mi' F. Gale, of Kaikoura, broke his leg a few days ago by slipping on the floor of the verandah of his residence. Dr Parker, and Messrs J. O. Jamieson, H. F Roberts, G. Elliot, W. Evans, J. A. Millar, M.H.R., A. Kaye, D. Craig, and Monsignor O’Reilly and Dean Foley were amongst the passengers from the south by the express last evening. Dr Knight, of Wellington, barrister, is a candidate for the vacant seat on, the University Senate. An improvement is reported in the condition of the Hon F. H. Fraser, M.L.C., but perfect quietness has been enjoined by his medical advisers for some -time to come. The ©state of the late Sir Edward Knox, of New South Wales, has been sworn at £124,000. Mr T. B. Curran, member for North Donegal in the last House of Commons, has recently returned to Sydney, and been admitted to the New South Wales Bar.
