THE CITY ABATTOIRS.
THE SYDENHAM COUNCIL’S OPINION. At the meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council last evening a letter was read from the City Council stating that under section 15 of the Slaughtering and Inspection Act it was made compulsory for the city to build an abattoir within, a specified time. The City Council was proceeding, therefore,, to provide an abattoir for the city, and the question had arisen as to whether provision should not also be made to supply accommodation; for the boroughs surrounding the city, some of which had already signified their desire to have provision made for them. The City Council wished to know whether the Sydenham Council would join in carrying out the Act. After some discussion Councillor Sim moved that the letter from the City Council regarding the abattoirs should bo received and that the Council cannot see its way to depart from its resolution of Oct. '2, 1899, which, was to the effect that this Council would grant a share of the interest on the loan for the erection of city abattoirs pro rata upon a valuation basis conditionally upon each contributing local body being represented upon the Board of Management and on the sub-committee appointed to select a site. It was also decided that Councillors Jacques and Forrester should be a deputation to wait upon the City Council to explain the question.
