CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, Feb. 18. (Before Mr C. Hood-Williams, J.P., and Mr R. Westenra, J.P.) Drunkenness.— Three first offenders were fined 6s each, with. the usual alternative.—Kate Brown, who had just completed three months’ imprisonment for vagrancy, was also fined 5s. —Katherine Norris and Jane Kennedy were (fined 5s and 10s respectively.—Minnie Bench was charged with drunkenness and with having used obscene language when being arrested on Feb. 16. She said she “expected” she bad used had language, though she had no recollection of doing so. After evidence had 1 been given she was fined 10s on the first charge and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment on the second. Alleged Wife Desertion.—James Dingwall, charged with wife desertion, was remanded until next day, hail being allowed in two sureties of £25 each. Drunk While in Charge of a Horse. —William Falloon, for having been drunk while in charge of a horse and trap in Colombo Street, was fined ss, in default twenty-four hours’' imprisonment. Alleged Assault. James Leckie, charged with having assaulted John Smith, on Feb. 7 and 9, was remanded until next day.
