THE FEDERATION COMMISSION.

THE SITTING IN CHRISTCHURGH. The following members of the Federation Commission, having concluded their sitting in Dunedin, came on to Christchurch on "Saturday by the express:—The Hon Colonel Pitt, M.L.C. (chairman), the Hon C. C, Bowen, M.L.C, Captain Russell, M.H.R., Messrs John Roberts, C.M.G., H. fieauchamp, C. M. Luke, W. S. Reid and T. W. Leys. The Hon Major Steward, M.H.R., -will arrive by the early train from Ashburton this morning, and Mr J/ A. Millar, M.H.R., will come by the express tonight. The Commission will commence the Christchurch sitting at ten o'clock this morning, in the Provincial Council Chamber, continuing until 1 p.m., resuming again at 2.3o'p.m.,'sitting, till 5.30 p.m. The. Christchurch sitting is expected to occupy several -days, as a "large number of leading ,gentlemen connected with (he various trades and agricultural and pastoral pursuits have been subpoenad, and many more will probably volunteer evidence. Sir John Hall, the Hon W. Roileston, the Mayor of Christ-' church (Mr W. Reece),' Mr 'G .G. Stead, and Messrs Fried! ander and Thomas, of Ashburton, are amongst those to be called before the Commission in Christchurch.
