CITY AND SUBURBAN BURGESSES ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of’the Executive of the Association was held on Thursday evening at the coffee rooms, Toneydiffe and ■ Carey’s Buildings. A letter was received from the Hon the Minister of Agriculture, stating that a qualified inspector of dairies would be appointed to the Christchurch district, and would take up the duties at an early date. A letter was received from Mr W. Sym'e, of Onaero, Taranaki, setting forth a very bad state of affairs in his district. Streams and creeks were polluted from dairies running filthy matter into them and the streams were used by cattle for drinking purposes. A sample of the, water from one of the polluted streams was sent to the Agricultural Department, Wellington,. and 1 although the chief veterinarian, Mir' Gdruth, reported “that the sample consisted of putrid liquid, and was totally un-. fit for consumption by stock,”'nothing had, Bo far, been done to remedy this very .had state of affairs. The policy of the society in regard to the Waimakariri scheme, the election of a council in April next, the enrolment of burgesses and other municipal matters, were discussed at some length, and it was decided to appoint a sub-commit-tee to definitely formulate a policy.
