MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

The . ordinary monthly meeting .of the Knightstown Library Committee was held in the Library Hall on Monday. . The Overseer of the' alterations' '"reported'that the work was progressing; and" the' building' would-be completed by Jan-. 26. The offer of Mr G. Capper, to arrange for a concert on the opening night, was accepted with, thanks, and the. following gentlemen were appointed a/ sub-committee to assist Mr Capper:—Messrs Beanland, Moon, Vincent and Jowsy. The Treasurer reported that a sum .of £l4 was in hand. ■A r quarterly summoned meeting' of Court Star of'Canterbury, A.0.F., was held on Monday evening. D.C.R., Bro- F. T. Eldridge, presided. , Two.new'members were admitted' into' the Order,' and one was proposed.- The C.R. declared the result of the ballot for officers as follows:—C.R., Bro C. Savage; S.C.R., Bro Catea-; S.W., Bro Cooper; J.W., Bro Restieaux; 5.8., Bro Turvey ; J. 8., Bro A. Brown; A.S., Bro Jewiss; M.S., Bro Watts. The C.R. read letters of condolence on the cfeath of the late C.R from Court Star of the South, Otago District, and from the City of Christchurch Lodge of Oddfellows. A 'meeting of the Loyal Sister Pearce Lodge-of Oddfellows was held on Thursday, Jan. 3. ' Officers were elected as follows, and duly installed:—N.G., Sister Napier; V.G., Sister Carnie; E.S., Sister Thorn son; Warden, SisterUnwin; Guardian, Sister Grose.' It w-as resolved tlhat P.G. Sister M. Pearce's name should be placed on the respect board, and that she be granted the usual P.G, certificate. P.P.G.M. Bro Cle.worth and P.G.M. Bro Caterer were appointed auditors.
