THE IMPERIAL CONTINGENT.
A VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND. A MESSAGE FROM THE AGENTGENERAL. [Pee Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 15, The Agent-General has cabled as follows to the Acting-Premier:—“The Colonial Office informs m© that the War Office has recommended the Admiralty to arrange for an extension of the visit of the Imperial troops from Australia to New Zealand.” The Deputy-Governor has received the following telegram from the Secretary of State for the colonies :—“ I have much pleasure in informing you that the Secretary of State for War. has agreed to the Imperial troops now in Australia visiting New Zealand.” It is believed by the authorities in Wellington that the troops will embark at Melbourne for New Zealand probably about Jan. 29. Mr W. Reece (Mayor of Christchurch) has received the following letter from the Hon J. G. Ward, Acting-Premier:—“l have just received a cable from England to the effect that the War Office recommends the Admiralty to arrange for extension of the visit of the Imperial troops from Australia to New Zealand. Judging from this, I have no doubt the Imperial troops will visit our shores, and if I get any further information I shall communicate with you.”
