THE VANCOUVER SERVICE.

INTENTIONS OF THE UNION COMPANY. [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Jan. 10. . Mr James Mills, managing director of the Union Steamship Company, in the course of an interview with a representative of the “ Otago Daily Times ” regarding the Union Company having secured an interest in the Vancouver service, said that the question of the substitution of a three-weekly for a monthly service was under consideration, In the meantime, the present service will he continued, the Moaha replacing the Warrim-00, and the latter coming into the intercolonial trade. The question of future developments and of the extension of the service to New Zealand, had not been fully considered, the latter point being entirely dependent on the amount of support the service would receive from the New Zealand Parliament. The suggested alternative of extending the. service to New Zealand is establishing- a branch to Fiji. Mr Spreckles was anxious that the Union Company should continue to act as agents for the Oceanic Company till April, but, in view of their taking up the Vancouver service, that was impossible.
