CRICKET.
A NEW DECISION. United Press Association—By Alectrid Telegraph—Copyright, ... \ f . LONDON,. Jan. k The committee of the Maryiefcone Cricket Club has resolved that captains of cricket teams shall decide the fitness of the ground and light for play. Umpires are to decide when captains disagree. SOUTH AUSTRALIA v. NEW SOUTH WAIVES. SYDNEY, Jan. 9. The ; South Australians in their second innings scored 156 (Matthews 24). New South Wales won by an innings and 605 runs. AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON. [Pun Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 9. The Aucklanders should have had no difficulty in saving a one-innings defeat, ab the day turned out showery and made things unpleasant for the bowlers, but despite a capital display by the brothers Mills the later men failed. A start could not be effected at the proper time, and under the circumstances some resolute batting might have succeeded in saving the game. As it was the visitors were beaten •by an innings and 13 runs. Hay kept in, but only scored slowly and could get no one to stay with him.. As on the previous day, Tucker was knocked about unmercifully by W. Mills, "but had his revenge, by securing seven men for 66, a very fine” performance with a slippery ball. Clarke also bowled with effect, and Wright made amends for his mistakes of yesterday by catching three men behind the wickets. Scores: —• ■WELLINGTON, First Innings.
