As usual, the,day war. mainly confined to judging sheep and cattle, A Noticeable feature was, that, nearly all the ch am p i ontdi ip s were taken TyTofi aJly.-OMa animals, though .in competition With, importations, in cattle'from : leading herds in Aus-. tralkt, and in sheep from England and from other parts of the colony. ■ Mr E. Tan net, the Hon J. D. Ormond and Mr E. J. M att were the chief winners in Lincolns, the former faking both ohanipionrhips. In English Leicester®, Mr P. C: Threlkeld and Messrs Nelson Bros, were most successful. _ In Romneys, MvF. Hutcnim on and Mr \V. B. Allen were the chief exhibitors, the former taking the championship for ram and the latter for ewe, but Mr B. Chambers and Mr R. H. M’Kcnzie were also very successful. In' Downs there was no competition, Messrs Nelson Bros, having it all their own way in Shropshires, and Mr S. R. Lancaster in Southdowns. Cattle were practically confined to Shorthorns, which, were numerous and very fine, Archdeacon Williams showing the champion, bull and cow. Mr W. Ratlibone, Messrs M’Hardy Bros., and the Mount Herbert Estate, • also took leading prizes. The show of thoroughbred horses was- small. Draughts were good. . The champion. sire was the Hon J. D- Ormond’s Prince Arthur, and -the ■ champion mare; Air Douglas ABLetm's Duchess. In pigs, Messrs Slack Bros.: were.the chief prize-takers with Yorkshires, and BeTkshires; 'and Air John, Jarvis with Tamwdrths, At midnight heavy rain set in, and poured' incessantly at noon,, and the public day of the show was therefore deferred until Alonday.
