PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL ASSOCIATION.
, A meeting of the ■committee of the Pro-' gressive Liberal Association was held on Monday evening. On the re commendation' of the executive, Mr F. S. Yates .was ap*! pointed' secretary to the 'Association. • Mr Gilfeddier’s proposed amendment to the Electoral Bill was discussed, and 1 the follow-; ing motion iwas agreed to: —“ This commit-; tee strongly disapproves of Mr Gilfedder's proposed amendment, regarding it as a re-' trogfade step,, and is of opinion that: thd term of the duration of Parliament should be decreased" rather than increased.” Tt was also decided that this resolution should bd , sent, to the Premier and the city and. suburban members. The proposal to in-! crease the number of Parliamentary representatives was approved of, and the Secretary was directed to forward the reso-; lution to the Premier. The Bill prohibiting the importation of opium' for smoking was also approved, subject to the; amendment; o£ Clause 3, so as to make it dear that the person obtaining the permit shall not. be allowed to .prepare the article for smoking.' The report of the Technical Education Com-:! mfbtee was adopted. It-was resolved, that; i on the first favourable opportunity a dejf putatioa from the committee should inters, view the Premier with respect to the in-; accuracy Of the wages statements published in the reports of the Labour Department.;
