CHRIST'S COLLEGE SPORTS.

The annual sports gathering in"-connec-tion with Christ's College was held yesterday at the fchool grounds. The heavy rain that fell during the night and the threatening appearance - of the ■weather/ early yes'terday morning made the committee rather anxious, about the success Lof-t-he sports, ■ and the first evert was not -started until ,half an-<hour, after tha advertised-time (9.30.) By-that time , the ,weather : appeared to-be more-settled, "aid later on the day proved 'to be a beautiful one, although the showers--.of the night had made the track a trifle heavy. -The attend--arco in the .morning, .was coral ned. chiefly to the schoolboys, but in the afternoon'there was a large gathering of their parents and friends! The sports were very successful, and some good performances were : registered. The Old Boys' Champion Cup was won by J. L. Anderson, who scored "18 poircts, his wins showing that he was undoubtedly • the tbest sprinter at the school. In addition to the scratch. eve>nits which he won, Anderson .secured the Quarter-mile Hurdle Handicap,. in .which le was giving starts up to'sixty yards, and also hxid a very big field to gefc'rhrough. 'Si H--Town-end, who won the Half-niilo ard "the Onemile events, was runner-up for the Cup. Mr Grigg's Cup, for boys under 14, 'fell to W. G. Tonks,.whb took-firs-fc place in the Long and High ■ Jumps' and second-in the ICOyds. He also carried off the "200yds Handicap, though" that event, of did hot give him any points for the Cup. 'Some ct' the younger 'boys -showed ivery promising, form, the "most' notable; being :H. Haftiner and B. B.'Wood, boys-under 15, who put up .very ,gqod time over a quartermile. In the Chapel ,Choir Boys.' Race, Wood covered. the distance in 61 2-ssec, 1 2-sseo faster than the (best time previously put up by a boy under 15, while in the Quarter-mile, for boys under 15, Hanmer ram very .well, bis 'time being returned: as 59 2-ssec. -Unfortunately, - owing to (the removal o'f -seme stakes, there was some doubt as to ■ the distance • lie 'had -covered, and the race will be run again on Monday, First and second prizes were-given for yesterday's race, but the time cannot be.recognised, nor will his win .entitle Hanmer to retain .possession of Mr Gould's Cup, which he had won the previous year. An enjoyable aifternocm's sport was- concluded with the Old Boys' Race, which was won' by C. F. Overton from th. 3 . 12yds mark. Throughout the day tho events were got off with commendable:-punctuality. The officials responsible for the management of the meeting were:—President: the Headmaster (Mr C. F.
