PRESENTATIONS.
A correspondent at the Chatham Island" writes that a very .interesting ceremony took place at a social gathering -held in honour of .Miss Belle Shand, who is about to leave the island to take up her residence in New Zealand. For -many years. Miss Shand has -been organist of St. Augustine's Church, and the members of'the church, presented her with an address and 'a purse of sovereigns. The. presentation was made bv the Rev W. B'la/thwayt, who wished Miss Shand every happiness in her new .home. A pleasant little gathering took place at the Clarendon Hotel on Tuesday evening, when the members of the Merivale Foot- ' ball Club presented Mr W. Hales (who was captain of the club's First Fifteen last seasou) with a handsome silver-mounted walk-ing-stick, suitably, inscribed, in recognition of his valuable 'services both on and off the field, Mr Hales, who will leave ' for Wellington, returned thanks, and said'he regretted leaving his club-mates. . During the' evening Mr R. Corsbie was also .pre-, seavtcd with a silver-mounted 1 walking-stick (the gift of Mr L. Biggins), he being the best player in the club's First Fifteen during , the past season.
