ENTERTAINMENTS.
On Wednesday evening a. musical entertainment was given at the Rangiora Oddfellows' Hall by Mrs and Miss Atkinson's pupils. ' The programme included a. cantata, entitled, "The Silver Penny/' which was given in a very pleasing manner by the young people. The audience was a large one. • •
A concert and "social," in aid of the funds of the Weedons-Rolleston United -ticket Club, .was held in the grainshed', ( Rolleston, on Friday last, and passed offi.jfi very successfully. .There was a large atten-j ;^ ;i dance, at the concert, after which, dancing ■ .was kept irp from 10.45 p.m.,'"till after 5""• a.m., when the last of the visitors departed, after having spent a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Refreshments were provided' byj the ladies and the members of the club., The following performers assisted at the con- ■' cert":—Mrs Arnold,: Misses Henry, M'Laughlin, Cronin, .Picken, O'Shaughnessy, Farrell and Newton.. and Mrssris Wicks, Hampton, Arnold, Liddle, Suckling,; Delaney and Aitken. . _ There was a fair audience downstairs in the Opera House last evening, on the occasion of a change of programme in the series of popular concerts by the Chicago Christy, Minstrels. The best, item in the first, parti was 'the chorus, "Sweet Chiming Bells". L Mr A. Hayden- was successful with his comic numbers, and Mr J. M'Lean received hearty applause for his rendering of "The King's. Minstrel." Miss Cameron's song,; " Bid Me to Love," was well received. The performance concluded with the fares, "The, Stage-struck Darkey." . The City of Christchurch Lodge of Oddfellows celebrated its anniversaay on'Friday evening last, by holding a " Sam Wellei? Swarry." There was a large attendance, and the chair was occupied by P-G-- Bra Robert Winter, who was supported by the ■ District Officers and two members of the Lodge, who" were both over seventy years of' acre. The toast list included "The Queen," "The Manchester Unity ," ."The Grand Master aird. Board of "The District Officers," "Sister Lodges, ■ " City of Christchurch Lodge," " Our Boys, at the Front." (which was enthusiastically received), " The Ladies," " The Press," and! "The Caterer." " Songs and other items were given by Bros Cusafk, Oakes,' Brun-. ton, Harrison, Riley, Foster, Chick, Snaw,, C Bills M'Caw, .Miller, Woods amdi Kent.Bra E.' Clarke presided at the piano, and a verv enjoyable evening was brought to a . close'by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne". and the National Anthem.
