BOROUGH COUNCILS.
KAIAPOL Til'S fortnightly meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was held on June 26; present—The Mayor, and Councillors Pearce, Edmonds, Blackwell, Bugg, Eagle, Daly, Hayman and Pamha-m. TUa Engineer reported that the fire-engine had been overhauled, and was now in good order. A hearty vote of thanks was passed in this, connection to the manager of the Woollen Company and Mr Broadley for the assistance they had given. The Sanitary Committee reported mat notices had been served, on a number of persons to abolish cesspits, and to stop the practice of throwing rubbish over the river bank. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts had been £l4B 17s, and that there was a debit balance of £297 12s Bd. Accounts amounting to £46 2s lOd were passed for payment. On the motion of Councillor Daly, seconded by Councillor Bugg, it was decided that the Council should visit the part of the river that threatened to overflow its bank, before any money was expended on the matter. A motion that the police should be asked to see that lights were carried by bicycles and vehicles at night was lost. Councillor Pearce was appointed marshall of the procession that will be formed when the declaration of peace is celebrated. Councillors Pearce, Doubleday and Pamham were appointed to draw up a report with regard to rents of the Council’s reserve at Dromore, in regard to which Messrs Hasettone and Stringfellow waited on the Council.
