At the Sheep Show Mr George Cox, of Mudgee, 'secured the special prize for the best fine-woolled sheep in the show. Messrs S. and D. M’Caughey, of New South Wales, and James Gibson, of Tasmania, secured the strong wool championship?, and Mr S. M’Caughey and Mr Gibson the fine wools. QUEENSLAND STOCK LOSSES. BRISBANE, June 29. At a meeting of the Pastoralists’ Association, ‘the President said that it was estimated that from December, 1892, the drought and rabbits bad caused a loss of nearly fifteen million sheep, of a value of over £5,000,000. There was also a shortage of about one million ancf a half cattle, valued at over £2,000,000. THE CABLE QUESTION. MELBOURNE, June 29. The cable delay? of the last few days are being used as a base of attack on the Post-master-General in his dealings with the Eastern Extension Company. It is urged that had the company’s terms been accepted, Victoria would be reaping the advantage of cheaper rates, and been daily drawing nearer the time w'hen it would have the advantage of a duplicate service. Waiting for the Pacific cable, it is said, the colony will be met with vexatious delays for a long time to come.
