WORK AND WAGES.
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, March 26. The Typographical Union having made good the technical omission by filing a new base, the hearing of the linotype dispute by the 'Conciliation Board began to-day. Mr Fenwick, of the ■" Otago Dally Times," is appearing on behalf of the masters. The principal demands by the men are for seven hours work by day and six by night, day wages 2s an hour and night 2s 3d an hour. These rates represent a considerable increase, and the men also demand an increase in payment for piece work. A number of other concessions and privileges connected with the work mentioned are also asked for.
Amongst the demands of the Typographical Union "is double wages on such holidays as Christmas Day, the abolition of brmmcß to operators, and that time work only idiou'ld be recognised on the machines. 'MfHHt?. Skinner,. Henricks and Joyce appear for the Union, and Mr Hunter assists Mr Fen wide on the employers' side.
