THE COMMON CAUSE OF DEATH.
IS BRIGHT'S DISEASE CURABLE? f ("Family Doctor," London, Eng.) '; : As : showing-'-the ; increased attention)., which the jpnblicinow .evince in such mat-, teis,,' the ; ? Lb-hd-oh'■-'vEveiiing News " and". ''Post." .devoted'a'whole column of its' issue .of August 10th to .a resume of tihV ; opinions of English Mid foreign specialists) on the important question, "Ik Disease Curable?" ■ • .«
In view of 'the generally accepted opinion), and belief that there is na help for a pa-) tient- whose case has been diagnosed as/ Bright's disease, and .which oprnion and 1 / belief is, we m';-<ke bold to say, fostered by'; the medical profession. It muse have been/ with surprise that the readers of that most; interesting article learned that such shining lights as Sir More'll Mackenzie. Dr Maclagan, physiciau to the Princess Christian, and, other members of the Royal family,DnS'amuel Mills, Dr Herbert Tibbt-tts, and; other medical men of prominence in Lcndon,-i express the opinion that while some phases are incurable, others .are certainly curable,' or that life may, at (least, be prolonged for: a longer or shorter .-period. This ©piriio'n; is also .held by Bcctc-irs Dujardin Beaumetx,, Bouchard,,Labadie-Lagrave, -and Professor Lepinc, of Paris, Professor Senator iof Berlin,.and Professors Notlmagel, Schroetter and Winteraitz of Vienna. One cmiuent gentleman, Professor Germain Lee. of tha Academic de Mcdicin, of Paris, calls at-," tention to the fact that the presence .61 albumen- in the urine does not necessarily' deno'te Bright's disease—a mistake .that ii-. too frequently made by the ordinary practitioner. ' ~ ;'.;
It must ..be a matter of self-commendation to the- proprietors of Warner's Safe Cure', to note that in expressing the opinions', referred to, 'the medicajUgentleinen mentioned but line out the arguments'and mode ol treatment followed by Messrs Warner with, such, wonderful success for some years. There 'can be no doubt •that to Messrs'War-; ner's .persistent efforts to educate the', people 'as to the functions aiid importance! of t'hoee great organs, the kidneys and the liver, considerable attention has been directed to them, and knowledge is of a most desirable character, "we carinot' but sympathise • with ' the result of tacit'' efforts. • That- they are successful, we cannot' doubt, : when we 'notice the reference, to them that has recently appeared ,in tba; financial journals. ' ; While on the subject of Bright's diseabe,.;' we reproduce a testimonial of recent date, the original of which we have seen, and,■ which we have every .reason to believe is * genuine, and you will note that it is given by the MAYOR OF GLENsINN'ES.'N.S.W.- !'
He says :—" I have often thought it my duty, for the sake of others, to "write to you. It will be five years nest month since my wife was given up by the doctors as a .patient (Who could not live the night through. She .bad been treated for heart complaint, but Ave afterwards found it was kidney disease. On Sunday, when tha doctor,told me she would not live anoth'ei! day—her legs and body Swollen—a friend said, "Try Warner's Safe Cure." Half* past ten that very night I went out an<| bought a bottle. I gave her. one >close; then, in about tin ,'hcur, another. She said soon after, " Jim, I feel 'better." I continued with Warner's Safe Cure, giving up the doctor's medicine, arid she (is' a living monument to its curative effects today.
the dO'Ctcrs wnd everyone who knew net were .astonished, and her only trouble.since that time is a weakness of the heart, which! I .suppose, was caused -,by wrtyig treatment in the first instance.
I have recommended Warmer's Safe Cur-e scores .of times, with satisfaction, and wp always keep it in the house. If my liver ii sluggish I take it as a tonic. I,am,-in fact, sure it is good for 'these cornpMnts. - : After an elapse -of -five years since my wife was cured, I consider it a fair trial as to the.pernancy. and I am well.kndwn here, having been here sixteen- years, been, Alderman fourteen years,, since whi-ch ;time mayor of the ■municipality.' ol Glen Iniies, New Smth. Wales, and not afraid to sign my name as a ..guaran-tea to others that it is what it is represented.'! —JAMES HEALEY, Mayor. .1988
