Rousseau declared that his only ambition was to pacify the country and secure respect for judicial decisions. M. Ernest Roche, Socialist Revisionist Deputy for Seine, aided by a section of the Socialist party, fiercely assailed General GaJlifet. Violent scenes occurred, and personalities were indulged in. The intervention of M. Brisson saved the Government. The Chamber ultimately approved the Premier’s declaration by 263 to 237. The Senate by a large majority supported M. Rousseau.
